AP Trump photo garners global attention

, by Lauren Easton

When shots rang out at former President Donald Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday, AP chief photographer Evan Vucci sprang into action to capture an image that instantly became iconic.

The photo of Trump, raising his fist in the air, surrounded by Secret Service agents with the American flag in the background was featured on the front pages of dozens of newspapers, as well as websites and magazine covers.

“At the moment I heard the shots being fired, I knew that this was a moment in American history that had to be documented,” said Vucci, who recounted taking the photo in this video. “It’s our job as journalists to do this work.”
